3.5 billion cash transactions / year in Belgium. Doctors, nurses, nannies, electricians, dentists, plumbers, taxis, deliveries… 200 000 POS. What if one could capture part of this volume and propose to use mobile phones for payments? Pay2me is that solution launched by Banksys (acquired by Atos mid 2006). Merchants need to register to use the system. To execute the transaction, the vendor enters the amount, sends it to the buyer via sms, the client validates the transaction. Bernard van der Lande, Head of E&M Payments at Banksys explains how Pay2Me was successfully deployed in Belgium using the support of the 3 leading operators and the banks. He covers also the business model. The interview was conducted in French at Mobile Monday in Paris on April 2nd. Listen carefully – noise in the background.
