I believe that Magnum is about to announce a european partnership with Yahoo! and possibly Nikon to celebrate its 60th anniversary on April 17, 2007. It would be something like a picture a day on Yahoo!. Nikon would pay for the advertising space. More in a few days.
In the US, Magnum is inviting newspapers to pick a picture for free to illustrate on of their features.A way to put Magnum back in the news, where it originated. Magnum’s editorial department director Sue Brisk said.
In this spirit, Magnum Photos, comprised today of more than 60 photographers, wish to involve daily newspapers throughout the world in ‘Magnum Front Page.

In celebration of the agency’s 60th anniversary, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography is holding an exhibition of 150 monochrome and color photographs of Tokyo, seen through the eyes of Magnum photographers from the 1950s through to 2006.

The agency has succeeded as an independant one, in spite of ups and downs, of internal rivalries about what the agency should or shouldn’t be about, of the digital revolution and of the wave of acquisitions. A recent article in Le Monde even points out that the agency is attracting again new and talented photographers.
